With the recent updates to Lightroom in 2018, you can now build a profile to invert negatives and in many cases no further processing will be needed. This process yields much better results than inverting with RGB tone curves, and it is much quicker/easier once the initial profiles are created.

Editing (Convert Negatives to digital) To go through the editing process first you need to make the negative into positive. Go to the button 'Create new fill or adjustment layer' and select invert. 'Invert' layer converts negative into positive. You can have a nearly real view of the negative now.

The two images have been converted by NLP from raw files I took - photographing a Kodacolor 400 negative I had exposed and developed in 1978. Of course, the late summer aspen leaves could be spruced up a little to make the images more palatable for modern/digital times, where colours cry out loud. Note: NLP is a plugin for Lightroom. When done adjusting in ACR, click on "Open Image" to convert the RAW file and export it to Photoshop. Change the little triangle thingie on the status line so it shows "Document Profile". It should be showing if you followed my recommendations. It should look something like this: Still negative, but white balanced. Step 8. Invert the image. If you 'scanned' the slide (positive) film, you can skip this step. For the negative film, select the duplicate layer and hit Cmd+I on Mac or Ctrl+I on Windows to invert the image. Step 9. Desaturate the film. If you scanned the color film, you can skip this step.

I have lightroom and photoshop but I do not have Negative Lab Pro. You can use this workflow with whatever similar apps that you use. Pop the negative RAW file from your dslr into Photoshop (or your equivalent free software). Use the film edge to set the white balance. Then go to the RGB curve and just invert the sides.

Picked it up on Amazon for 1/4 of the price of more expensive tripods, but performs great, and once you invert the main column, it’s a perfect tripod for this setup. ...
